I am going to finish my classical by filling the pores with Z-POXY and finishing with KTM.

After I do this, what do I do and where do I go to get the materials?

I will be ordering the Z-POXY and KTM from LMI, so I am tring to save on shipping as much as possible.

I don't have enough experience to offer advice.
You are going to spray the KTM?
How do you plan to 'rub out' the finish- by hand, with a buffing wheel, etc?
I'm assuming that you are looking for recommendations for abrasives and rubbing/buffing compounds.
More details will probably get some good specific answers.

Doug, you should get a copy of Robbie's finishing video. Robbie does a great job of explaining what steps you need to take to get a great finish with a variety of different finishing materials.

Hi Guys. I'm looking for material/supplies to rub out the finish after I spray. What are my options? I would love to buy a buffer, but they are expensive. Is there anything I can do in the same vane, but cheaper?

Or, I hear these can be dangerous if you let them wander on a spot to long.

Tell me..after the finish cures what is your process?

Hi Robbie. I considered doing a French Polish. I did this on my first. It turned out very well. I don't know if I have the patience for that again .

Will a French Polish really yield a better tone? I am considering spraying everything but the top. I could just F.P the top...

You can certainly rub out a finish by hand, using Meguiars or similar compounds.
Robbie's video has some good info on this.

If you have a good auto body supply place (or a good marine supply) nearby, you could probably get what you need there as well...rubbing compound, polishing compound. The same basic stuff is good for rubbing out guitars, car paint, or fiberglass on boats.

If you thought that FP was too much physical work, you may not enjoy hand rubbing/polishing much!

Also, with FP, you don't have to wait weeks for the finish to harden up before you can make it shiny.

Hi Doug,

There is an article by Mike Doolin in the Online Resources section of the OLF. He gives a very detailed explanation on how to finish using KTM9. I personally have use this finishing schedule and it works great.
There are a lot of supplies needed though.

Doug,

I second Lance's suggestion to look at the Doolin process. I followed it on my first and it resulted in a really nice finish. I had to look for some of the abrasives on-line as I couldn't find them locally.

You also might consider one of the RO buffers as an alternative to a buffing wheel. You can find them in one of the big-box stores for pretty cheap. Combine that with the 3M finishing compounds (finesse-it and perfect-it) and you can get a real nice glossy finish. As an added bonus, you can then use it to shine up the wife's car. She might cut you some slack for buying all that sandpaper.
